Nov 15, 2015- Forest Ministry is going to sell firewood to Kathmandu denizens from 8 am Sunday.
“We will sell wood from Balkumari and Gaushala from Sunday morning,” spokesperson of Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation Krishna Prasad Acharya said. “The price has been fixed at Rs15 per kilogram.”
According to the Ministry, a family will be allowed to purchase a maximum of 100kg firewood.
The government had planned to sell firewood from Friday but it was postponed due to the Tihar holidays. Forest Ministry is going to sell firewood through depots of Timber Corporation of Nepal, a government entity.
Ten trucks laden with firewood have entered Kathmandu to meet the demand for cooking fuel amid the shortage of gas, diesel, kerosene and petrol. TCN has transported 10 trucks of firewood to Kathmandu from Bara under the direction of Forest Minister Agni Prasad Sapkota.
Sapkota had directed to haul 300 logs of firewood (each log measuring 20 feet long, 5 feet wide and 5 feet tall) to Kathmandu. According to TCN General Manager Birendra Yadav, it will take about 215 trucks to carry all the firewood and the remaining wood will be brought from Nawalparasi.
