Biratnagar, November 18. In Kathmandu, major political parties and United Democratic Madhesi Front are in for decisive talks on contentious issues like province delineation and redrawing of provincial boundaries, while, in Biratnagar, a movement has begun in Morang against bids to split the district.
Under the current federal scheme, Morang is in Province Number I. The UDMF, on the other hand, has been spearheading a movement with a set of demands that includes making Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari a part of Province Number II.
People in Biratnagar, the district headquarters of Morang, started the movement right after major parties and UDMF started talks on the alternative that seeks to split some districts in a bid to address UDMF demands.
A gathering organised in the Elite Club has formed a Civil Society Morang comprising representatives from different organisations based in the Biratnagar region. Right after its formation, the society decided to spearhead a movement against splitting Morang.
The society informed that it will take out a rally from Jana Andolan Chok and submit a memorandum to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli through the District Administration Office.
The gathering concluded that splitting the district in the name of addressing UDMF demands will spoil geographic, ethnic, linguistic and cultural equilibrium existing for years.
It called lawmakers representing the district to press top leaders against the bid to split the district
