In attack targeted at UML lawmaker Pokharel, UDMF stormtroopers vandalise jeep
Morang, November 18. Cadres from the United Democratic Madheshi Morcha tried to attack CPN-UML lawmaker representing Morang constituency-1 Rishi Kesh Pokharel and UML Central Member Mahfooz Ansari, in Jhurkiya, Morang, on Sunday.
The two came under attack from UDMF activists while they were returning after participating in a programme that the UML regional committee had organised in Jhurkiya-based Paiyamari primary school to exchange festive greetings and disseminate information cards about the contents of the constitution.
The attack has shattered the windshields of the Bolero jeep (number plate Ba 13 Cha 3140) that lawmaker Pokharel was riding on. Pokharel and Ansari have escaped unscathed. Ram Lal Sah, the UML district secretariat member, has sustained minor injuries in the attack. According to Pokharel, a group of about 50 people, including UDMF leader Vinod Singh, Udaya Yadav and Hari Sah, had attacked them. Demanding action against the attackers, the UML has moved the Sijuwa area police office. UML Morang President Mahesh Regmi described the attack as condemnable. Police say a search is on for the UDMF cadres involved in the attack.
Meanwhile, the UML organised a protest against the attack in Ambari Chok, Sijuwa, on Monday.
