Final shipment of Chinese oil aid arriving on
The last consignment of the Chinese petrol aid, which China pledged to Nepal to help it cope with the covert Indian blockade, is arriving in Kathmandu on Wednesday.
Rabin Sharma, chief of Nepal Oil Corporation’s Thankot fuel depot, said 13 tankers left for Kerung on Tuesday to fetch the Chinese oil. Twenty-six tankers had left for Kerung on Monday.
These 39 tankers will return with the last consignment of petrol that China has provided to Nepal as assistance amid the blockade. Deputy Superintendent of Police in Rasuwa district, Avadesh Bista, informed that five oil-carrying tankers have already returned from Kerung. Of the 1,300 KL petrol that China pledged as aid, 374 KL is yet to be brought to Kathmandu. Loading of petrol in Nepali tankers is currently underway.
The Chinese oil grant has offered some respite at a time when the country has been reeling under the blockade. The process for bringing petroleum products from China on the commercial scale is yet to see completion.
