KATHMANDU, November 17: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has wished for peace, happiness, prosperity, mutual goodwill, unity and progress of all Nepali sisters and brothers at home and abroad on the occasion of the Chhath festival.
In a message of best wishes today, President Bhandari said festivals like Chhath characterized by religious and cultural diversity have provided an opportunity for enjoying social and family gathering, and strengthening smooth mutual relations with ending mutual animosity and ultimately contribute to garner social and national unity.
The President wished that this festival inspire all the citizens maintain national unity, integrity, reconciliation and consensus, effectively implement the first constitution of the federal democratic republic Nepal and gear up for the building of prosperous Nepal.
Meanwhile, Nepali Congress Acting President Ramchandra Poudel has extended best wishes to all Nepali sisters and brothers on the occasion of the Chhath festival.
In a message of best wishes today, leader Poudel has said celebration of festivals like Chhath with cultural, lingual and ethnic diversity have helped maintain unity, friendship and goodwill among the people of mountain, hill and Tarai and would contribute to resolve all sorts of problems in the country with effective implementation of the new constitution.
Chhath, the festival dedicated to the Hindu god Sun and Chhathi Maiya(the Vedic Hindu goddess) is celebrated across the country today.
Likewise, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today extended greetings to all the ethnic communities, religious faithful, communities and regions on the occasion of the festival of Chhath stating it should encourage all Nepali to move forward on path of prosperity bound by a thread of unity.
The PM wished for good health, long life and progress to all the Nepali brothers and sisters. He also wished for brotherhood, unity and spiritual bond among all on the occasion.
"Religious tolerance, social unity and lasting mutual relations are Nepal's traditional culture," PM said adding, "Nepal is a common place of multi-religion, multi-culture and multi-ethnicity."
The PM said all the festivals celebrated by all the ethnic groups and communities had their own specialty which he termed as cultural jewel and identity of all Nepali people. "Festivals of various communities and ethnic groups in aggregate amounts to Nepal's cultural identity," PM Oli shared.
The Chhath festival which is celebrated mostly in Tarai-Madhes by worshipping the Sun God is gradually becoming popular in the hilly region too.
In his message, PM Oli said the wide cultural development with each community celebrating other communities' traditions and culture would enhance mutual reconciliation and brotherhood among various ethnic groups, religions and communities. RSS
